You’ll explore the sacred north of Peru on a journey that will connect the legacy of ancient civilizations with the history of Pope Leo XIV in these lands. Between Trujillo and Chiclayo, you’ll discover impressive archaeological sites, museums, and traditions that reveal the cultural richness of the northern coast, while following in the footsteps of the pontiff’s presence and work in the region. An experience where archaeology, history, and spirituality converge in a region of extraordinary heritage.
Chan Chan. An impressive adobe city designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Considered the capital of the Chimú culture, it consists of nine citadels covering an area of more than 20 square kilometers, making it the largest in the Americas.
Huaca de la Luna. This impressive ceremonial temple of the Moche civilization, located near Trujillo, is known for its polychrome murals and monumental architecture. Huaca de la Luna reveals fascinating scenes of rituals and sacrifices, offering a unique window into the beliefs and customs of an ancient culture.
Church of Santa María de Magdalena in Eten. You will visit the Church of Santa María de Magdalena in Eten, a place deeply linked to Pope Leo XIV. When he was bishop of Chiclayo, he promoted recognition of the Eucharistic miracle that occurred here in 1649 and undertook the construction of a future sanctuary to preserve this devotion, a reflection of his legacy of faith and hope.
DAY 1 | Lima - Trujillo | Arrival in Trujillo

DAY 2 | Trujillo | City Tour and the Pope's Trail
The tour will begin at your hotel in Trujillo and head to the Santa Rita de Casia Parish, where you’ll learn about the history and spiritual significance of this church. You’ll then continue to the Convent of Santo Tomás de Villanueva, a place with a rich religious tradition. The route will continue to the Our Lady of Monserrat Parish, where you’ll be able to appreciate the devotion that the community maintains to this day. Next, you’ll visit the San Carlos and San Marcelo Major Seminary, a center for priestly formation with a deep-rooted legacy in the region. Later, you’ll enter the Archbishop’s Palace of Trujillo, a symbol of the city’s ecclesiastical life. Afterward, you’ll enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, you’ll head to Trujillo’s Plaza de Armas and stroll along the Pizarro Pedestrian Walkway, surrounded by colonial architecture and a historic atmosphere. Finally, you’ll be transferred back to your hotel in Trujillo.
DAY 3 | Trujillo | Huacas del Sol and Huacas de la Luna, Chan Chan, and Huanchaco
Upon arriving in the Moche Valley, you will be welcomed by a traditional family descended from the ancient inhabitants who built the impressive Pyramids of the Sun and the Moon, the center of power on Peru’s northern coast during the Moche period. You will then visit the majestic Pyramids of the Sun and the Moon, which served as the center of power in the Trujillo Valley during the Moche era. You’ll be able to admire the stunning set of adobe frescoes on one of the walls of the Temple of the Moon, unearthed by archaeologists.
You’ll continue on to Huanchaco, an ancient fishing village where you’ll see the traditional boats known as “Caballitos de Totora,” which keep the millennia-old tradition of artisanal fishing alive. In the afternoon, you’ll visit the ancient citadel of Chan Chan, which covers approximately 18 km². You’ll enter the Nik-An Palace, located in the southwestern part of Chan Chan, and explore its ceremonial plazas, shrines, reservoirs, granaries, and cemeteries, among other sites.

DAY 4 | Trujillo - Chiclayo | El Brujo Archaeological Site
The tour will depart from Trujillo and head to the El Brujo Archaeological Complex, which is of great importance for understanding the Moche culture. Located in the Chicama River Valley, 60 kilometers from Trujillo, it is home to one of the most impressive discoveries of recent years: the mummy of the Lady of Cao, a Mochica ruler who transformed perceptions of women in ancient Peru.
The complex consists of three pyramids: Huaca Prieta, Huaca Cao Viejo, and Huaca Cortada. Huaca Cao Viejo is the main site, featuring decorative friezes, a central courtyard, and a ceremonial plaza. It was here that the Lady of Cao’s burial bundle was found in a tomb that reflected her importance. Her body was found almost intact thanks to the techniques used in her mummification and was adorned with tattoos and jewelry, such as necklaces, earrings, and filigree nose rings, crafted from gold, silver, copper, semiprecious stones, and shells.
After the visit, you will continue your journey by road to your hotel in the city of Chiclayo.

DAY 5 | Chiclayo | The Pope's Route
You will begin your tour with a transfer from your hotel to the Chiclayo Cathedral, one of the city’s most iconic churches and a place closely linked to the history of Pope Leo XIV, who lived in this region for many years. You will then continue to the district of Eten to visit the Church of Santa María Magdalena, a key site in his spiritual formation and local legacy. Next, you’ll head to Monsefú, where you’ll visit the Church of San Pedro, another significant site on the current pontiff’s pastoral journey. At the end of the tour, you’ll return to your hotel in Chiclayo with a more intimate and human perspective on the man who today leads the Church from Rome, yet whose roots remain alive in northern Peru.

DAY 6 | Chiclayo - Lima | Túcume, Royal Tombs Museum, Huaca Rajada, transfer to the Chiclayo airport
You’ll start the day with a transfer to Huaca Rajada–Sipán, where you’ll visit the archaeological complex where the legendary Lord of Sipán was discovered—one of the most important tombs in the Americas. Next, you’ll continue on to Túcume to explore this extensive complex of pre-Inca pyramids that reveal the splendor of the Lambayeque culture. The tour will continue with lunch at a local restaurant in the city of Lambayeque. In the afternoon, you’ll visit the Royal Tombs Museum, home to the jewelry and artifacts found in the Lord of Sipán’s tomb. Finally, you’ll return to your hotel in the city of Chiclayo.
You’ll be transferred from your selected hotel to the Chiclayo airport, accompanied by a representative.
