DAY 1 | Puerto Maldonado | Arrival at the Amazon Reserve

Domestic flight to Puerto Maldonado.

You’ll arrive in the city of Puerto Maldonado, known as the “Capital of Biodiversity.” A car ride will take you to the port to begin your Amazonian adventure with a 45-minute boat ride along the winding banks of the Madre de Dios River. The motorboat will take you to Inkaterra Amazon Reserve, nestled in the heart of the rainforest. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted with a welcome briefing where you’ll be introduced to the à la carte excursions, so you can design your itinerary according to your interests. You can then enjoy lunch or head to your cabin, located in Peru’s first private ecological reserve, which Inkaterra has been conserving since 1975 due to its sensitive environment. After a brief rest in your rustic-chic cabin, you’ll be ready to begin exploring, accompanied by your Inkaterra Explorer Guide. You’ll traverse the trail system for an introduction to the intricate biodiversity of the Amazon basin and the different layers of the rainforest.

You’ll walk surrounded by impressive trees, such as the Shihuahuaco, while your ears take in the songs and whispers of the exotic wildlife that inhabits this ecosystem. These are ideal opportunities for birdwatching and for enjoying the abundance of vegetation. At sunset, you can take the “River at Night” excursion to witness how the jungle transforms into a nocturnal world, giving way to species adapted to the shadows of the night. You may spot everything from nightjars, owls, and capybaras to caimans hidden along the riverbanks. An Amazonian-inspired dinner awaits you in the main dining room from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM, where you’ll toast with a complimentary Pisco cocktail. Upon returning to your comfortable cabin, you can rest.

Lunch and dinner included.

DAY 2 | Tambopata Reserve - Inkaterra Canopy Interpretation Center

Sunlight filters through the dense canopy as the jungle’s inhabitants awaken from their slumber. You can join them early in the morning, with the breakfast buffet available starting at 5:00 a.m. This morning, visit Lake Sandoval, a sparkling body of water located within the Tambopata National Reserve. Board a carved wooden canoe and paddle leisurely through the waterways that feed the lake, then cruise across it, flanked by beautiful palm trees. This serene lake is home to various species of birds, the endangered river otter, howler monkeys, macaws, anacondas, turtles, black caimans, and other animals. Return to Inkaterra Amazon Reserve in time for lunch.

In the afternoon, we recommend taking the thrilling Inkaterra Canopy Walkway, a safe and sophisticated system of ecologically built suspension bridges connected by eight platforms and two panoramic observation towers. This is an unforgettable opportunity to observe the Amazon rainforest from the treetops and appreciate its vastness. Climb the first tower, 42 meters (138 feet) above the ground, with your senses on high alert for toucans, woodpeckers, trogons, monkeys, and the elusive three-toed sloth. Extend your high-altitude visit to enjoy the sunset with cocktails from an observation tower, or spend a unique night in a treehouse designed with surprising amenities (services at additional cost). Back at the lodge, you can book a treatment at the ENA spa. (Additional cost applies.) À la carte dinner awaits you starting at 7:00 p.m.

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included.

DAY 3 | Quebrada Gamitana - Nighttime Jungle Hike

You’ll take a 25-minute boat ride to the Gamitana Farm and Gorge to discover more of the rainforest’s mysteries. The Amazon is an almost inexhaustible source of exotic fruits and vegetables, many of which possess healing properties that benefit the local communities living in the remote jungle. At the Gamitana model farm, surrounded by the sounds and scents of the Amazon, you’ll get an up-close look at how a wide variety of ingredients are grown by local farmers, as well as the chance to sample seasonal fruits. Walk along a trail through dense vegetation beneath the lush canopy until you reach the Gamitana Creek. This creek, with its dark, muddy waters, is home to piranhas, caimans, turtles, and birds that hide along its banks. Return to Inkaterra Amazon Reserve for lunch. You’ll travel 35 minutes upriver to Inkaterra Hacienda Concepción, built on a former cacao and rubber plantation in the 1950s. Founded by Catholic missionaries, this property served as a medical and ecological research center. With over 200 different plant species, see why the Amazon is considered the world’s largest pharmacy, and learn firsthand about their uses and benefits.

Then enjoy a relaxing 30-minute canoe ride, on the lookout for turtles, kingfishers, nightjars, and herons before returning to your lodge. Under the moonlight, you’ll be invited to take the Nighttime Jungle Tour. Equipped with flashlights, walk through the foliage as your senses pick up on movements in the vegetation and the nocturnal sounds of the forest coming from all around you. Accompanied by your Explorer Guide, discover animal activity and observe species that only come out at night.

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included.

DAY 4 | Puerto Maldonado | Free morning - Departure
